October 2026 - Week 4

Goodbye Mr Baker.

Today, we say goodbye to Mr Baker, and we would like to thank him for the excellent work he has done in Year 2, supporting both the children and Mrs Segal. It has been wonderful to see his many skills in action, alongside his unwavering patience, kindness and dedication to the pupils.

Mr Baker is now leaving us to continue his career in film and documentaries, and we wish him every success in this exciting next chapter. Thank you, Mr Baker, for everything you have contributed to Livingstone. You will be missed, and we wish you the very best of luck for the future!

In the meantime, Mrs Armstrong will be taking over in Year 2. We are grateful to her for stepping into the role and supporting the children as we move forward.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their calm, understanding and swift response to the electrical fault that occurred earlier this week.

The safety and wellbeing of our pupils and staff is always our highest priority, and we greatly appreciated the support shown by our whole school community during what was an unexpected situation. Thanks to everyone's cooperation, we were able to manage the incident effectively and ensure that all pupils remained safe throughout.

We would also like to commend our pupils, who responded exceptionally well. They followed instructions sensibly, remained calm and demonstrated the maturity and resilience that make us so proud of them.

Thank you for your continued support and have a lovely half term break!

Maths Parent Impact Workshops

We would like to invite you to our Maths impact sessions, where you will have the opportunity to take part in activities with your child and their class teacher. The sessions start at 9:00am and will last approximately 45 minutes.

We highly recommend that you join us for this session so you can…

. see the variety of resources we use to support maths learning in school

. experience maths activities that your child completes

. work with your child

. get ideas on how to support and encourage your child’s maths learning at home

If you are not able to attend, please encourage another family member to come and join us instead.

Please see the diary dates to find the relevant session for your child.

We look forward to seeing you all then.

Nursery

What a busy week Nursery has had! This week, we have been exploring the themes of harvest and pumpkins. We have enjoyed reading the story Five Little Pumpkins and singing lots of pumpkin songs together, like the Roly Poly Pumpkin and 5 Little Pumpkins.

We started our Yoga sessions too, practising breathing to self-regulate and trying balancing on one foot.

The children have been busy making magical potions in our cauldrons, mixing and pouring different ingredients. We have also explored ice melting by experimenting with hot and cold water, observing how the ice changes. In our mud kitchen, the children have continued to develop their imaginative play by making delicious, slimy mud cakes!

We have also enjoyed visiting our pond area, looking closely at the trees and collecting little treasures from the ground. These experiences have encouraged the children to explore the natural world, use their senses and develop their language as they talk about what they can see, find and feel.

We wish all our families a restful and enjoyable half term. We look forward to hearing about your adventures when we return!

Talking Homework

Over half term, we would love you to spend some time talking with your child about pumpkins, autumn and the world around them.

Pumpkin fun: Can your child remember the story Five Little Pumpkins?

Sing the song together and encourage them to join in with the words and actions.

Autumn treasures: Go for a walk and look for autumn leaves, conkers, acorns or sticks. Talk about their colours, shapes, sizes and textures.

Little scientists: If you have ice cubes at home, watch one melt in a bowl. Ask your child, “What do you think will happen to the ice?” and “What can you see happening?”

Mixing and making: Encourage your child to help mix ingredients when cooking or baking. Talk about what happens as you stir, pour and combine different ingredients. Let's talk! Encourage your child to share their experiences by asking simple questions such as “What did you see?”, “What did you find?” and “What was your favourite activity?”There is no need to write anything down. Simply enjoy chatting, exploring and sharing experiences together. We look forward to hearing all about it when we return to Nursery!

Have a wonderful half term! 🍂🎃

Kingfisher Early Years and Bluebirds

We have been very busy again In Kingfisher Early Years. The children have enjoyed pumpkin themed fun all week.

The stories We're Going on a Pumpkin Hunt, and 5 little pumpkins are firm favourites. The song, Five Little Pumpkins is a great way to explore emotions.

In Bluebirds we have been enjoying the Sensory story - Room on the Broom. In 'Fun with Food' the children have excelled themselves making pumpkin muffins and pumpkin hummus, delicious and healthy!

The core word this week was MORE.

Reception

This week we celebrated Black History Month by learning about Lewis Latimer, who helped make lightbulbs work better and also helped build the telephone. The children had fun playing the telephone game passing a message around the circle and seeing how it changed along the way! We also explored artwork from Alma Thomas looking at her use of bright colours and repeated patterns and the children enjoyed creating their own abstract art using different colours and patterns. In maths we have been exploring collections of 3 and learnt that 3 is made up of 1 and 1 and 1. The children made their own groups of 3 using different objects.

In Phonics we have continued learning new sounds and working hard on our letter formation using whiteboards to practise writing our letters correctly. We have continued with Halloween activities and have enjoyed talking about and sharing different celebrations that people celebrate.

The Phonics speed sound book has been sent home to practise reading and writing the sounds we have learnt at school. (We have completed sounds m - r) so please go through these over half term! You will need to bring in a book bag in for us to give you the book.

Wishing you all a lovely half term break!

Our Learning This Week 🍂

Maths

This week in Maths, the children have been learning all about position, direction and movement. They worked in pairs to solve an autumn maze, using directional words such as left, right, forwards and backwards to guide their partners through the maze. The children also enjoyed using Bee-Bots to navigate their way around maps, developing their understanding of direction and movement.

English

Our theme in English this week was Autumn. The children used Colourful Semantics to help them write sentences describing the season, thinking about the wonderful colours and changes they can see around them.

Creative Activities

The children enjoyed creating their own pumpkin faces using cutting and sticking skills, developing their spatial awareness as they carefully arranged the different features. They also made fantastic conker spiders and used Colourful Semantics to write instructions explaining how to make them.

Well done to everyone for their fantastic effort, creativity and learning this week! 🍁🎃🕷️

Achievement Awards

This week's award go to Nikki for completing her sticker chart.

Well done Nikki!

Year 3

Well we've made it to half-term and what a successful one at that!

During Wednesday's incident, Year 3 showcased how mature they are becoming by staying calm and rational - I, and other members of staff, were very impressed.

Maths - This week has been about formal column methods and how we can use these in order to solve addition and subtraction problems. This has lead us onto the importance of presentation - making sure our work looks as good as the content of it is.

English - This week, we have written and published our setting descriptions of an autumnal forest, making sure we keep our presentation neat and upgrading our vocabulary to make it interesting for the reader.

Computing - We have started computing this week where we looked at algorithms; What are they? Why are they used? How do we make one? This lead to some interesting attempts at stacking cups through written pictorial instructions rather than verbal communication, with some interesting results!

Homework

Homework is due back on the Wednesday after half term.

Maths - P23 + P24 (P25 is optional)

English Grammar - P24 + P25

Brain Boosters

Brain Boosters have been set for the half term. These are optional. Children who complete an amount of tasks will receive a certificate - see below.

2/3 tasks = Bronze Award

4/5 tasks = Silver Award

6 tasks = Gold Award

These tasks can be completed in the Brain Boosters book or uploaded onto teams. If you have any questions on how to upload onto teams, come and find me and we'll sort it

Finally, I would like to wish you all a wonderful and restful half term and thank you for all your support in welcoming me into the Livingstone community :)

The achievement awardsthis week in Year 3 have gone to Ben and Safiya!

Ben - For starting to take care of his presentation in his work

Safiya - For excellent adaptability during the week

Well done :)

Year 4

It has been a busy week, as always. In Maths, the children have finished addition and subtraction, and area. In English, we have been very impressed by their second long write of a letter where they used emotive language in role of a boy looking for his dad.

Their foundation lessons this week, have been PSHE where the topic has been ‘My healthy self: How can I make healthy choices?’ Within this topic the children have been looking at how healthy habits help build a healthy body and healthy mind, their trusted adults and how a growth mindset can help build their resilience to overcome challenges.

Year 4 have had an amazing start to the year. Myself and Miss Gordon are very proud of them, thank you for the support and we wish you a restful half term.

Homework

Maths – pages 23 and 24 and a times table sheet

Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation - pages 40 and 41

Achievement Awards

This week's achievement awards go to Carter for his fantastic Maths and how neat his work is, and Sonny for his excellent learning behaviours and always completing his work to a high standard. Well done to you both!

Year 5

This week in Maths, the children solved word problems involving addition and subtraction.

They finished their swimming lessons, and all did fantastically. If you are able to take your children swimming regularly, I highly recommend it so that they don't lose the skills and confidence they've developed these last two weeks.

In RE, we are focusing on our big question, What is Real? We've begun by looking at Muslim and Christian beliefs on there being one higher being. We will continue this after half-term.

Have a lovely, restful break!

Homework due by Weds 4th Nov

Reading: pages 20 and 21 (Dirty Face)

Grammar: pages 94 and 95 (homophones)

Brain Boosters is coming home today too. While we encourage the children to do some tasks, please remember that they are optional.

Achievement Awards

This week's awards go to Ali for his maturity and use of hand signals during our discussion work, and to Ethan M for his thoughtful ideas about religion in RE. Well done, boys!

Year 6

A very warm welcome back to our Year 6 pupils following their adventure on the Isle of Wight! Unfortunately, due to concerns about Storm Austen and the possibility of ferry cancellations, the decision was made to bring everyone home a day early. Despite this change of plan, the children have had a wonderful week packed full of exciting activities and unforgettable memories.

From tackling Jacob’s Ladder and climbing to enjoying a beach walk and whizzing down the zip wire, there has been plenty to challenge and excite them. They even managed to emerge from the sensory trail clean and dry - an achievement in itself!

We are incredibly proud of how brave the children have been. We have heard wonderful reports of their resilience, teamwork and willingness to step outside their comfort zones throughout the week.

A huge thank you goes to Mr Boucon, Mrs Armstrong, Mrs Church and Mr Sudbury, who have inspired and supported our pupils while being on duty around the clock. These experiences simply would not be possible without the dedication and commitment of our staff.

Well done, Year 6! We hope you have made memories that will last a lifetime.

Achievement Awards

All of Year 6!

Kingfisher 2

This week in Maths we have been learning about subtraction. We have practised various methods to help us mentally calculate and solved addition and subtraction word problems.

Wishing you all a wonderful half term holiday. We look forward to seeing you all back in November!
